Abstract To understand the situation of birth defect in surrounding area of Qinshan nuclear power base. Methods: The data of pregnant women and newborns during 2012 and 2016 in Haiyan county were collected. The rate and change of birth defect were analyzed. The difference of birth defect was compared between Haiyan county and Jiaxing city, and among women with different census register. According to age, occupation, education level, pregnancy time, household registration, and linear distance of residence from nuclear power, the difference and risk factors of birth defect of women in different groups were statistically analyzed. Results: During 2012 and 2016, there were 312 cases with birth defects in 14789 perinatal births, and the birth defect rate was 21.10 ‰, which had no significant different from that (23.40 ‰) of Jiaxing City. There were no significant difference in the birth defect rate among different years, and among the women with different age, occupation, education level, pregnancy times, household registration, and the linear distance from residence to nuclear power (P>0.05). Conclusion: After 26 years of normal operation of Qinshan Nuclear Power Station, it has no significantly adverse influence on the birth defect of Haiyan county in recent 5 years.
