Abstract The placenta ages with the gestational time increasing, which is a normal physiological performance, but some placenta ages in advance. Recently, some studies have gradually reported that adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as includes premature rupture of fetal membranes, stillbirth, preeclampsia, and placenta implantation, is associated with abnormal aging of placenta. This article reviews the research progress of the characteristics of placental cell aging and its relationship with pregnancy complications.
