Abstract To assess the expression of visfatin levels in serum and endometrium of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods: 56 patients with PCOS from Tianjin medical university general hospital were included in PCOS group, and 46 patients without PCOS who need the reproductive because of the factors of male factor or blocked fallopian tubes were included in control group during the same time. The levels of visfatin in serum and endometrial tissue were observed in patients with different BMI, HOMA-IR, androgen level, or endometrial lesions. Result: Visfatin levels of patients in PCOS group were significant higher than those of patients in control group. In PCOS group, visfatin levels of patients with obese were significant higher than those of patients without obese, visfatin levels of patients with HOMA-IR were significant higher than those of patients without HOMA-IR, and visfatin levels of patients with endometrial hyperplasiais were significant higher than those of patients with normal endometrium (P<0.05). Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that waist circumference or HOMA-IR was the independent risk factor influenced serum visfatin levels of patients with PCOS. The visfatin expression level in endometrial tissue of patient with PCOS was positively correlated to the serum visfatin expression level of patient with PCOS (r=0.450, P=0.003). Conclusion: The serum level of visfatin may be an important indicator of abnormal metabolism of patients with PCOS and the influencing factor of endometrial hyperplasia of patients with PCOS.
