Abstract Preeclampsia(PE) is a leading cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, and its pathogenesis is still unclear. As autophagy is the most basic life phenomenon in eukaryotes, it widely participates in many physiological and pathological processes of the body. Relevant studies have shown that moderate autophagy is considered to play an essential role in protecting trophoblast cells from death and preventing PE. However, the damage or excessive of autophagy process can lead to PE or even adverse pregnancy outcomes.
