Abstract Objective: To explore the effects of chronic unpredictable mild stress (UCMS) on reproductive system in male rats. Methods: SPF SD rats were randomly divided into normal group and UCMS group. Rats in the UCMS group were given 28 days of chronic unpredictable mild stress, while those in the control group was normal fed. Body weight as well as the weight of testis and epididymis was measured. The number of sperm, sperm survival rate and sperm activity were evaluated. HE staining was utilized for observing the structure of rat testis. Results: Compared with the control group, the weight of testis and epididymis and the body weight of rats in UCMS group were remarkably decreased. The sperm activity decreased significantly, the rate of grade a and c sperm decreased significantly in UCMS group. The structure of testis in UCMS group was damaged compared with the control group. Conclusion: The chronic unpredictable mild stress can be harmful to the reproductive function of male rats.
