Abstract To investigate the value of serum estradiol (E2) combined with β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) detections for predicting pregnancy outcomes of infertile patients after in vitro fertilization embryo transfer (IVF-ET). Methods: The clinical data of 206 infertile patients who underwent IVF-ET treatment and terminated pregnancy from July 2016 to July 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. These patients were divided into group A (patients with abnormal singleliving pregnancy), group B (patients with abnormal double-living pregnancy), and group C (patients with other abnormal pregnancy) according to their pregnancy outcomes. The β-HCG and E2 levels of the patients on 10th, 13th, 16th, and 20th day after IVF-ET were compared among the three groups. ROC curve was drawn to analyze the value of the levels of β-HCG and E2 for predicting pregnancy outcomes of the patients. Results: 206 infertile patients after IVF-ET had experienced pregnancy termination after confirmed abnormal pregnancy by B-ultrasound and followed up, which included 75 cases with abnormal single live fetus in group A, 53 cases with abnormal double live fetus in group B, and 78 cases in group C (27 patients without pregnancy, 12 patients with ectopic pregnancy, and 39 patients with abortion). There were significant different in the levels of β-HCG and E2 of the patients on the 10th, 13th, 16th and 20th day after IVF-ET among the three groups (P<0.05). The β-HCG level alone, the E2 level alone, the combination of β-HCG and E2 levels all could predicting the abnormal single or double live fetus of these patients (P<0.05). The combination of β-HCG and E2 levels for predicting the abnormal single or double live fetus on the 13th day after IVF-ET has the highest specificity (100%), and the sensitivity (100%) of combination of β-HCG and E2 levels for predicting the abnormal single or double live fetus on the 20th day after IVF-ET was the highest (P<0.05). Conclusion: Serum E2 level combined with β-HCG level for predicting pregnancy outcomes of infertile patients after IVF-ET has a high value, which is expected to provide guidance for the successful pregnancy of infertile patients.
