Abstract Objective: To investigate the effect of Huayulidan decoction combined with polyene phosphatidylcholine on the liver function and pregnancy outcomes of pregnant women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP). Methods: 68 pregnant women with ICP were enrolled and divided into two groups according to the willingness of women from June 2017 to June 2018. The women in control group (n=30) received the polyene phosphatidylcholine injection, and the women in the study group (n=38) received Huayulidan decoction combined with polyene phosphatidylcholine injection. The therapeutic effect, pruritus score, value of Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), total bilirubin (TBIL), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL)of women were compared between the two groups. And the gestational weeks when delivery, postpartum hemorrhages volume and delivery mode of women, and the incidence of adverse effect of women, and neonatal Apgar score in both groups were recorded. Results: The total effective rate of women in the study group was 94.7%, which was significant higher than that (73.3%) of women in the control group. The pruritus score and PSQI score, serum levels of TBA, ALT, AST, TBIL, TC, TG and LDL, and postpartum hemorrhage volume of women, and the incidence of neonatal adverse effect in the study group were significant lower than those of women in the control group, but serum HDL level, average gestational weeks when delivery, and vaginal delivery rate of women, and neonatal birth weight and Apgar score in the study group were significant higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Huayulidan decoction combined with polyene phosphatidylcholine can alleviate pruritus symptom of women with ICP, improve their liver function, and blood lipid levels and sleep quality, as well as can reduce adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes.
