Abstract To explore the change of HMGN5 gene expression in ovarian cancer issue and its correlation with clinicopathological characteristics of patients with ovarian cancer. Methods: The mRNA and protein expressions of HMGN5 gene in ovarian cancer issue cancerous and tissue adjacent to ovarian carcinoma were detected by quantitative real time PCR and immunohistochemistry. The correlation between mRNA and protein expression of HMGN5 and clinicopathological characteristics was analyzed. Results: The mRNA expression of HMGN5 in tissue adjacent to ovarian carcinoma (21 samples) was significant lower than that in ovarian carcinoma tissues (35 samples) (P<0.001).In the 35 samples of ovarian carcinoma tissues, there was 5 samples (14.3%) with positive expression of protein of HMGN5 gene, and there was 13 samples (73.3%) of cancerous ovarian tissues with positive expression of protein of HMGN5 gene in total 21 samples, which had significant different (P<0.0001). The positive expression of protein of HMGN5 gene was significant associated with tumor size, TNM stage and overall survival of patients with ovarian cancer (P<0.05), However, it was not associated with age, tumor location, pathological grade or histological type of patients with ovarian cancer (P>0.05). Conclusion: The expression of HMGN5 gene in ovarian cancer tissue maybe provide a clinical test indicator for treating patients with ovarian cancer.
