Abstract Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of clomiphene combined with pioglitazone to treat infertile women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods: 148 infertile patients with PCOS in the people's hospital of Taishun county were selected as subjects from May 2015 to May 2017, and all the patients were divided into study group (74 cases) and control group (74 cases) according to the random number table. Patients in the control group were treated by clomiphene, and the patients in study group were treated by clomiphene combined with pioglitazone. The incidence of adverse drug reactions during the treatment was recorded, the levels of sex hormones and insulin of all patients in the two groups were detected before and after treatment, the thicknesses of endometrium of all patients were measured, and the clinical efficacies of all patients were evaluated. Results: After treatment, the levels of serum LH and T of patients in both groups were significant lower than those before treatment, while the levels of serum E2 and FSH were significant higher than those before treatment (P<0.05), and changed value of patients in study group was better than that of patients in control group (P<0.05). The levels of FINS and HORM IR of patients in study group were significant lower than those of patients in control group after treatment (P<0.05). The thickness of the endometrium of patients in study group was significant higher than that of patients in control group after treatment (P<0.05). The rate of ovulation (87.8%) and the rate of pregnancy (45.9%) of patients in study group were significant higher than those of patients in control group (73.0%, 28.4%), but the rate of abortion (8.8%) was lower than that (33.3%) of patients in control group (P<0.05). During the treatment period, the incidence of adverse drug reactions (6.8%) of patients in study group had no significant different from that of patients (8.1%) in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared with clomiphene treatment only, pioglitazone combined with clomiphene can significantly regulate the level of hormone secretion of infertile patients with PCOS, improve the endocrine function of the patients, alleviate the status of insulin resistance, promote the recovery of endometrium, improve the success rate of ovulation and pregnancy, and reduce the incidence of abortion, and have better safety. It is worthy of clinical application.
