Abstract To explore the effect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) enema combined with acupuncture for adjuvant therapy chronic pelvic inflammatory disease (CPID). Methods: 202 patients with CPID who had been given western medicine treatment for 3 months were randomly selected received and were divided into study group (102 patients) and control group (100 patients) according to the numerical table method during June 2019 and June 2022. The patients in the study group were given traditional Chinese medicine enema combined with acupuncture for adjuvant therapy for 3 months additionally. The efficacy, the values of inflammatory factors and oxidative stress indexes, the Chinese medicine symptom score, the hemodynamics, and the incidence of the adverse reactions of the patients in the two groups were analyzed. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate (95.1%) of the patients in the study group was significantly higher than that (87.0%) of the patients in the control group. The scores of main TCM symptoms (3.57±1.08 points) and the secondary TCM symptoms (3.22±1.02 points) of the patients in the study group were significantly lower than those (8.12±1.15 points and 9.54±1.12 points) of the patients in the control group. The levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) of the patients in the two groups had decreased significantly, and the levels of interleukin-10 (IL-10), IL-2, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) of the patients in the two groups had increased significantly, and the changes of which of the patients in the study group were significantly greater than those of the patients in the control group. The values of the whole blood viscosity high shear and low shear of the patients in the two groups had decreased significantly, and which (4.07±0.17 mPa/s and 9.85±0.70 mPa/s) of the patients in the study group were significantly lower than those (4.78±0.25 mPa/s and 10.57±0.87 mPa/s) of the patients in control group (all P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions (1.96% vs. 2.00%) of the patients between the two groups (P=0.984). Conclusion: The combined treatment of TCM enema and acupuncture for adjuvant therapy CPID of the patients can improve their TCM symptoms, hemodynamics, inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and overall efficacy, and without the increase of adverse reactions.
