Abstract To explore current situation of the repeated abortion and contraception of childless women, so as to provide basis for clinical contraception counseling and guidance. Methods: The childless women who volunteered to terminate their pregnancy during the first trimester of pregnancy were included in this study. The age, the marital status, the registered residence, the educational level, and the contraceptive use of these women were recorded. Logistic regression was used to analyze the related factors of the repeated abortion. Results: 3965 women were included and 1454 (36.7%) of them had repeated abortions. The young women who were ≤24 years old accounted for 34.3% of repeated abortions. The women above 24 years old, married, and with low education level had an increased risk of repeated induced abortion (OR=2.29, 95% CI 1.98-2.65; OR=2.49, 95% CI 2.124-2.921; OR=2.49, 95% CI 2.124-2.921). The contraception rate (35.4%) of the included women was low. The contraception rate of the women with repeated induced abortion was significantly higher than that of the women without repeated induced abortion group (40.9% vs. 32.3%, P=0.000). The contraceptive measures used of the women in the two groups were mainly inefficient methods, such as condoms, emergency contraceptives, and the rhythm method. Conclusion: The women who were married or had lower educational level have higher risk of repeated induced abortions. Failure to use contraception or use unreliable contraception may be the main causes of abortion. Strengthening contraceptive guidance for the childless women, especially the education on effective contraceptives, is of great importance to reduce the rate of repeated abortions of the women and thus protect their reproductive health.
