Abstract To understand the levels of erythrocyte folic acid and serum vitamin B12 of 7135 pregnant women during the first trimester of pregnancy in Meishan city, and to establish the normal reference values of erythrocyte folic acid and serum vitamin B12 levels. Methods: 7135 samples of erythrocyte folic acid and 6296 samples of serum vitamin B12 of pregnant women aged 18-45 years old and during 8-12 gestational weeks from October 2018 to February 2021 were measured by Roche Cobas e411 automatic electrochemiluminescence immunoanalyzer. The measurement results were analyzed statistically and the reference range of erythrocyte folate and serum vitamin B12 levels were established. Results: The reference ranges of erythrocyte folic acid and serum vitamin B12 levels of the pregnant women were 1045.22 (606.11-1492.69)ng/ mL and 499.60 (201.0-927.3) pg/ml. The erythrocyte folic acid level of the women had increased with the maternal age increasing (P<0.001). Only 7 women (0.098%) had the erythrocyte folic acid level lower than that (400 ng/ml) of recommended level for preventing neonatal neural tube defects. The proportion of the pregnant women with serum vitamin B12 level <191ng/ml was 2.3% (146/6296), which mainly in 18-35 years old. There was no significant difference in the serum vitamin B12 level among the pregnant women with different ages, and the proportion of the vitamin B12 deficiency of the women had increased with their age increasing. Conclusion: The establishment of the normal reference range of erythrocyte folic acid and serum vitamin B12 of the pregnant women during the first trimester of pregnancy in Meishan can provide theoretical evidences for pregnant management in location.
