Abstract Post-abortion genital tract infection is one of the main complications after induced abortion, which is caused by exogenous or endogenous pathogenic microorganisms, and can lead to secondary infertility, chronic pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy, and other adverse pregnancy outcomes. Post-abortion infection refers to the pelvic inflammatory disease that occurs within 2 weeks caused by pathogen after artificial abortion. The therapeutic principle is to treat pathogen with antimicrobial agents, and surgery if necessary. It is suggested that routine gynecological examination and vaginal discharge examination should be carried out before induced abortion. High-risk population should also be screened for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and those with positive results should be given standardized treatment. At the same time, reasonable standardized prophylactic antibiotics used before artificial abortion surgery is recommended to reduce the incidence of post-abortion infections.
