Abstract Objective: To explore the contraceptive knowledge, demand attitude and practice in primiparas during lactation in order to discuss the effective countermeasures. Methods: We conducted a questionnaire survey on 500 cases of primiparas who delivered in our hospital from October 2013 to July 2014, which included the comprehension ability of contraceptive knowledge , the attitude of demands for contraception and their choices of different contraceptive methods. Results: The accuracy rates of answers of "contraception while postpartum sexual life" (95.60%) and "contraceptive methods with prevention of sexually transmitted diseases" (90.20%) were higher those of other items (P all< 0.05). Overall, the demand for postpartum contraceptive knowledge was high and "condom" and "intrauterine device" were the two contraceptive methods most primiparas chose, and their utilization rates were higher than those of other measures (P<0.05). Conclusion: Primiparas are commonly lack of the knowledge of postpartum contraceptives during lactation, which was in high demand in contrast. Providers should pay more attention to personalized propaganda and education on contraceptive knowledge, and guide women to choose proper contraceptive methods to ensure their reproductive health.
