Abstract Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a highly heterogeneous reproductive endocrine disorder, which has a great impact on the women's lives. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) promotes and maintains the normal gonadal development and reproductive function of the women by binding to the specific follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) distributed on the gonads, and FSHR is one of the loci of the PCOS susceptibility genes. In recent years, there have been many studies on FSHR gene polymorphism. FSHR gene mutation of the women can reduce their FSH sensitivity and increase their androgen level, so as to cause the ovulation dysfunction and to affect the assisted reproduction of the women. In this paper, FSHR gene polymorphism and its effects on the PCOS of the women were reviewed to provide certain theoretical basis for the risk assessment and the genetic research of PCOS.
