Abstract To analyze the correlation between the semen quality of fertile men from sperm bank in Shanghai and the seasonal variation during 2019 to 2020. Methods: The examination data of the initial semen sample donated by 770 fertile men as the volunteers from the human sperm bank of Fudan University during the period of January 2019 to December 2020 were collected retrospectively, and these men were grouped by the meteorologically significant seasons of the same period in the Shanghai area. Multiple linear regression was used to analysis the correlation between the seasonal changes and the semen quality. Results: The mean values of the semen volume of the men in the spring, summer, autumn and winter season groups were 3.41±1.57 ml, 3.19±1.47 ml, 3.20±1.55 ml and 3.27±1.57 ml, respectively, and the mean values of sperm concentration of which were (69.88±32.29)×106/ml, (67.45±34.25)×106/ml, (62.36±28.04)×106 /ml and (74.39±34.65)×106/ml respectively. Both the mean values of the semen volume and the mean values of sperm concentration of the men in the spring and winter season groups were significantly higher than those of the men in the autumn season group (P<0.05). The mean values of the sperm forward motility of the men in the spring, summer, autumn and winter season groups were 48.02±13.30%, 47.83±11.53%, 46.90±12.10% and 47.31±11.52%, respectively, and the mean values of the total number of spermatozoa of which were (237.41±144.09)×106/ml, (211.55±41.00)×106/ml, (200.47±30.77)×106/ml and (242.54±160.10)×106/ml, respectively. Both the mean values of the sperm forward motility and the mean values of the total number of spermatozoa of the men in the winter season group were significantly higher those of the men in the summer and autumn groups (P<0.05). The sperm forward motion rate of the men aged 25-29 years old were influenced by the seasonal factors (β=-0.148,P=0.049). Conclusion: The seasonal factor in this survey is one of the factors affecting the semen quality changes of the fertile men in Shanghai, in which, the seasonal factor influences the sperm forward motility of the men aged 25-29 years old.
