Abstract Vaginal rings is one of the sustained and controlled release drug delivery systems. With the continuous technological development of vaginal rings, they have been accepted widely, especially in reproductive health field. At an early stage, they were mainly used for contraception and hormone replacement therapy. In recent years, they have been generally applied in the field of reproductive health, such as assisted reproductive techniques, anti-HIV infections, and the treatment of endometriosis. Furthermore, vaginal rings make it possible to deliver two or more drugs simultaneously for achieving the multipurpose therapy, such as HIV prevention combined with contraception.
