Abstract Objective: To compare the clinical effects of copper T380A intrauterine device (IUD), active γ IUD and Gongtong 200 IUD insertion immediately after artificial abortion. Methods: From May 2012 to May 2013 in our station 240 women seeking for IUD insertion immediately after artificial abortion were selected and randomly divided into A, B and C groups (80 women in each group), and underwent cooper T380A IUD, active γ IUD and Gongtong 200 IUD insertion, respectively. Clinical effects and adverse reactions of three groups were compared and observed. Results: After full use of 12 months, the pregnancy rates in the three groups were all 0; The expulsion rates were 3.75%, 1.25% and 3.75% respectively, showing no significant difference (χ2 = 1.177, P> 0.05); There were 3 cases of IUD rotation and inversion in group B; Continuation rates in three groups were 92.5%, 91.25% and 86.25%, showing no statistical differences (χ2= 1.944, P>0.05). Along with the duration of follow-up, the incidences of irregular menstrual abnormalities, back pain, abdominal pain, bleeding and abnormal leucorrhea of all patients gradually reduced. After 1-month follow-up, the incidence of menorrhagia and prolonged menstrual bleeding in group A were higher than those in group B and C, showing no statistically significant differences (χ2 = 1.827, P>0.05); At the time of 1, 3 and 6 months of follow-up the irregular bleeding rate in group C was higher than those in group A and B (χ2= 14.737, 8.312 and 10.213, P all <0.05); After 12 months, the incidence of overall adverse reactions in group B was lower than those in group A and C (χ2= 10.471, P<0.05). Conclusion: The insertion of cooper T380A IUD, active γ IUD and Gongtong 200 IUD immediately after artificial abortion all have good contraceptive effects, high continuation rate and small adverse effects, and could be worthy of clinical application.
