Abstract Objective: To investigate therapeutic effects of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) combined with traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of vulva leukoplasia. Methods: A clinical observation was carried out in 155 patients with vulva leukoplasia from January 2008 to November 2012. They were divided into three groups. Women in group A and B were treated by HIFU+drugs (n=55) and HIFU only (n=55), respectively. A total of 45 women were served as the control. There were no statistically significant differences in age, degree of lesions (P>0.05). Clinical effects were evaluated among three groups. Results: The effective rates of group A(92.7%,51/55) and group B(96.4%,53/55) were better than that of the control group (66.7%,30/45,P<0.05), and the effective rate of group A was the best. The adverse reaction rate of group A was 3.6%, while that of group B was 18.2%. There was statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). The recurrence rates of group A(1.8%,1/55) and B(7.3%,4/55) were lower than that of the control group (55.6%,25/45,P<0.05). Conclusion: HIFU combined with traditional Chinese medicine was a noninvasive, fast, safe and repeatable method in the treatment of vulva leukoplasia.
